Location and Site
West Lodge is set in the extensive woodland area of West Walk, north of the B2277 Wickam to Havant road and just east of Wickham. Wickham village is three miles north of Fareham.
Historic Development
The Taylor map of 1759 and the Milne map of 1791 both show West Lodge set in parkland with paths linking to a wider area of denser woodland. The Sales details for 1930 refer to a beautifully timbered secluded setting for the house. The 1930 sales details also refer to ornamental shrubberies, a rose garden, four paddocks and tennis lawn with a walled kitchen garden and second kitchen garden with fruit cages, greenhouses and orchard; in total eight and half acres. The house still secluded standing in well-timbered woodland.
Current Description
The setting of the house remains as it was in the 18th century, set in the extensive woodland area of West Walk. The Pilgrms Trail runs close to the site. There has been no building in the vicinity.
Summary
An eighteenth century house in a timbered and secluded setting which has changed little since then.
