Historical Development
Kilmeston Manor is Grade II listed with a C17 porch and C18 façade. The courtyard wall with stone copings and gate piers capped by urns, wrought iron railings and gate are still in situ.
It was a working manor farm until it was bought by Mrs Beaufort in 1893. (Smart) She laid out a formal garden, although she never lived there. In 1902 the Smart family bought Kilmeston Manor and when they sold it in 2009, it was described as 20 acres of lovely wooded gardens and grounds. (Country Life)
Current Description
In 2011 Kilmeston Manor underwent a programme of major refurbishment and alteration which included consent for a new access and entrance gates. The owner has also renovated the boundary walls and employed an arboriculturalist to survey the trees in the grounds and recommend improvements.
Summary & significance
The garden has received extensive renovation in keeping with a grade II listed manor house.
